Blessings Come with Conditions

Journal of Discourses 16:162 “Every blessing the Lord proffers to his people is on conditions. These conditions are: Obey my law, keep my commandments, walk in my ordinances, observe my statutes, love mercy,… keep yourselves pure in the law, and then you are entitled to these blessings, and not until then.” Brigham Young, Paris, Idaho, August 31, 1873

2 Corinthians 9:8; “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work”.

Philippians 4:19; “…my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Romans 5:8; “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Brigham’s words sound a lot like a malevolent dictator’s dog and pony show.

If God  had to wait on us to behave, no one would be blessed, or saved!

The one thing I always tell Mormons is that Jesus would’ve hung on that cross regardless of your acceptance of Him.

God doesn’t operate according to what man may, or may not do. He’s autonomous, and doesn’t need anyone, or anything.

He chooses to bless and/or save us because of His love for us.

Think about it.

Do you only give your children gifts when they jump through the hoops you’ve set up, or are the blessings you give a result of the love you have in your heart for them?

This is what saddens my heart the most about Mormonism. They have no idea of the incredible love our Lord has for them. Their false gospel is all about works and conditions of a 9-5 job, and not a relationship with the abundantly loving God of the Bible.
