BH Roberts: If Jesus was God’s Equal, Why can’t Man be Too?

16 October

New Witnesses for God, 1:458-459; “…If Jesus Christ, “being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God,” why should it be considered blasphemous to teach that man by faith and righteousness in following the counsels of God, shall at last become like him, and share his power and glory, being a God, even a son of God? …The Prophet Joseph Smith corrected the idea that God that now is was always God…“ – B.H. Roberts

2 Peter 3:14-16“Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”

There’s a lot of heresy in this world, and by no means is there a shortage of it when it comes to Mormonism!

Although born decades apart, BH Roberts and Joseph Smith seemed to be cut of the same cloth. Roberts’ personal diaries tell of the times as a boy where he’d sit and read about Smith for hours at time, as if to absorb every thought Smith had in his relatively short life. His studies paid off handsomely when the Church appointed him their official historian.

The book referenced above is the first of a three volume set authored by Roberts. The narrative is an exhaustive look at Smith’s version of God, and history itself. As you might imagine, everything Smith wrote about any subject matter was lined with a distorted, malignant slant. This obviously didn’t deter Roberts at all, and in fact, fed fuel to his fire.
