Abandoning Truth for the Prophet

14 October

Journal of Discourses 5:83 “Now, whatever I might have obtained in the shape of learning, by searching and study respecting the arts and sciences of men—whatever principles I may have imbibed during my scientific researches, yet, if the Prophet of God should tell me that a certain principle or theory which I might have learned was not true, I do not care what my ideas might have been, I should consider it my duty, at the suggestion of my file leader, to abandon that principle or theme. Supposing he were to say the principles by which you are governed are not right—that they were incorrect, what would be my duty? I answer that it would be my duty to lay those principles aside, and to take up those that might be laid down by the servants of God.” – Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, April 9, 1857

Romans 1:22 “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools”.

The LDS scenario today reminds me of when parents warn kids about their friends and ask if their friend jumped off a bridge would they follow.

I can’t imagine knowing something as absolute truth, and tossing it because the prophet disagreed. Can you?

Sadly, Mr. Woodruff’s poor judgment is being preached from Mormon pulpits today. Members of the Church continue to blindly follow instead of getting up, and walking out. Case in point was when their prophet Russell Nelson told everyone at General Conference Jesus visited America. Pray for Jesus to open their hearts!

With Love in Christ;
