My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
The hymn serves as a good reminder of how we’re incapable of fulfilling God’s requirements for salvation! This upcoming holiday is an ever present reminder of how grateful I am for His mercy upon me.
Today we’re looking at three talks, and providing short quotes from each. Sadly, the quotes earned a place in our next installment, ‘Worst of the Worst’ list. Sigh…
Please note the numbering system we’ve used here is purely ours, and doesn’t reflect which order their talks were given.
#1 – Gospel Taught Since Beginning of Time
How Can I Understand? “The commandment to learn the gospel and teach it to one another is not new; it has been constantly repeated from the beginning of human history.” — Ulisses Soares
You know, there’s a an old phrase known in the body of Christ lovingly referred to as ‘A Scarlet Thread Running Through the Bible’. A great explanation for it can be found at GotQuestions.org.
With that said, it should be clearly understood the name Jesus isn’t in Genesis, nor is the idea that Adam and Eve were sharing the gospel. Unfortunately, this is exactly what the Mormon Church obviously teaches today.
#2 – LDS Apostle: Savior’s Name is Jesus Christ
The True, Pure, and Simple Gospel of Jesus Christ “Jesus Christ is the name which is given of the Father, and there is none other name given whereby [we] can be saved; “Wherefore, all men [and women] must take upon them the name which is given of the Father.” — M. Russell Ballard
Mr. Ballard is merely parroting the same thing earlier leaders have said prior to his installment as an LDS apostle.
The Lord’s name is Jesus. The word Christ is a title, not a name. Moreover, he’s misquoting Acts 4:12 which says “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
#3 – LDS Sense of Entitlement
Answers to Prayer “When we honor our covenants and strive to be more like our Savior, we are entitled to a constant stream of divine guidance through the influence and inspiration of the Holy Ghost.” — Brook P. Hales
This is a poor understanding of why we’re blessed by the Lord’s Holy Spirit. My heart is sad for this man who has the impression God owes him something. John 3:30 says ‘He must increase, but I must decrease’. How is this possible if God owes me something?
Tomorrow we’ll be looking at a few other quotes.
In the meantime, we’re asking for Christians to pray for these deeply misguided people. How they sleep at night is a wonder…
Moreover, don’t forget to pray for those who’ve listened to the lies, my mother included.
With Love in Christ;
